Sky Vault Boost By Nottingham Trent University
23 May 2005 | The people behind Sky Vault have teamed up with Nottingham Trent University.
The project has just secured SIS (Stimulating Innovation for Success) support from the university, which will involve academic evaluation of the potential sites for Sky Vault.
In July last year, five East Midlands sites that could potentially host the landmark were chosen. These were the A1 near Grantham, Lincolnshire, the A1 near Balderton, Nottinghamshire, the M1 in Erewash, Derbyshire, the M1 in Northampton and the A42 near the National Forest.
Since then, the first phase in the site appraisal process has taken place, with site representatives being asked by the Sky Vault team to assess their sites.
Dr Tom Hughes, Nottingham Trent University lecturer and part of the Sky Vault team, said: "Feedback has been extremely positive. The next stage is to look at site-specific details and this is where we are now."
Nottingham Trent University's Knowledge Transfer Manager, Dr Chris Bridges, said: "SIS provides the ideal opportunity to maximise the success of any project. In this case it will give our academics time to assess the potential sites for Sky Vault and develop best case scenarios for each of them, saving a great deal of time and effort in the long run. We obviously are delighted to be involved in such a high profile scheme and look forward to seeing the results of this work."
