This is a selection of what other people have been saying about the Sky Vault project…
Tell us what you think about Sky Vault
Sky Vault is for the people of the East Midlands and we hope that this project will generate debate. We are very interested in what you think about Sky Vault and we would be grateful if you could spend a few moments to write your comments.
F. Arnot, Toton, Nottinghamshire
Slightly pointless marking one boundary. But aesthetically pleasing.
Ginny Beckett, Grantham
I love the concept! As Tourism Manager with South Kesteven District Council, I can see the value to this area (Grantham, Stamford on A1) from a tourism perspective. The greatest reason in the world for having the Sky Vault located in this area is Isaac Newton - this was his birthplace and where he went to school. The Sky Vault is akin to his discovery of the concept of light passing through a prism, with the innovative tunnel effect and lighting. The greatest man in history surely deserves the greatest sculpture in the UK on his doorstep!
C. Middleton, Carlton, Nottinghamshire
Beautiful structure. Let's do it! Put East Midlands on the world map!
S. Turner, Leeds
Born and brought up here, I now live in Leeds. I think the idea is a good one- it will certainly make it easier for me when I try to explain where I come from. I won't have to say, "Well, you've heard of Cloughie?" before people know where I mean.

Go for it. Anything to add some wonder, interest and difference. (It's a shame we need a 'reason' to do things like this)
M. Hutchings, North Misham (?)
Puts a feature into an otherwise dull landscape. Let's enjoy the experience.
R. Morrels, Nottingham
A hideous object, this money could go to better use.
D. and A. Simpson, Stoneygate, Leicestershire
A good idea- some interest in the area... it may be new today, but in years to come it will be "heritage"!
S. Barcikowski, Nottingham
We don't need to draw attention to ourselves in the East Midlands... It's crowded enough as it is. Stop attracting more people, more traffic, more chaos to this area. So do we need this?!!
A. Adcock, Beeston, Nottinghamshire
The area needs a significant landmark- this seems a realistic option. Maintenance could be very costly- siting of the Sky Vault (or two?) needs to be thought out to ensure maximum impact.
J. Power, Nottingham
Comparing it to Eiffel Tower and Liberty statue is inappropriate. They both celebrated events and became landmarks. You can't contrive a local identity just by erecting a big net over a motorway. The only people who would be able to apprciate it are passing motorists, unlike the Angel of the North for example, which can be visited by pedestrians on the ground.
M. Jones, Mapperley, Nottinghamshire
Object to use of large amounts of electricity which will affect the environment. Ordinary people are encouraged to save electricity.
P. Orme, Derby
Great idea- good to see artistic displays to brighten up our great countryside.
Zainab, Leicester
Great idea, NOT a waste of money, I don't think. Better than what other cities have done. Go for it people!
C. Snaith, Lincoln
How about mending the roads first?
J. Fowler, Nottinghamshire
It will look silly in 10 years time.
C. Todd, Nottingham
Great to see local talent being used- I hope it works out.
T. Potter, Doncaster
It would be good if it could be functional: e.g. carrying part of the 'Sustrans' route over the motorway. This would make it less of a homage to the car.
L. Nimmo-Scott, Nottingham
Initially sceptical, like the idea of a gateway, but would like to see a functional/progressive aspect to the construction.
P. Robinson, Nottingham
Would be OK if the gate at each end of East Mids on M1 and the whole run of road between could be made into part of the National Forest to encourage wildlife. If not the whole run of the M1 then maybe site the gates on areas along road which are now derelict and then create new parks on either side of M1 linked by the arch.
A. Walker, Nottingham
Pointless, waste of money, dangerous suicide attempts may be caused, other than that very good.
C. Nunn, Southwell
Hope businesses have the courage to fund it- after the first why not a second (in and out)? Just do it.
D. Kirby, Nottingham
It would make a lot more sense if there were two lobster pots on the M1.
D. Lowry, Kettering, Northamptonshire
Let's have more than one. Located at each major entry point. An excellent idea.
Z. Cebula, Northampton
Looks good. Drive through France and the motorways are full of interesting art. Good to do the same in Britain.
L. Price, Leamington Spa
Needs to be on main route into East Midlands. Impressive design!
P. and R. Ogden, Upper Weedon (?), Northamptonshire
Eye catching without being tacky- don't let it be turned into a corporate advertising feature.
Shaz and Rosie, Northamptonshire
We think that it is real ugly and minging so don't build it in Northants. It's horrible looking and don't build it in Northampton or else!
S. Rees, Northampton
A wonderful 'welcome home' symbol signifying the 'near-end' of a possible long journey.
Bulla, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire
We need stuff to set on fire and throw stones at, so build it in Wellingborough.
Shane C., Crow Hill
So I can **** my bird under it.
L. Jones, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire
Lovely design- hurry up and build it.
Niall, Northampton
A good identifiable landmark. What the East Midlands needs to distinguish itself from other regions. Excellent.
